One of the oldest and high-quality taverns in Arachova, Kaplanis tavern is located on Tropaiou Square (known also as Platania Square) and counts more than 30 years of operation. It is divided into separate areas managing to provide warmth and homely atmosphere. Especially on winter days when they also light up the fireplace, the guests enjoy Mrs. Stella’s recipes, whose casseroles are unmatched, while its grilled dishes are also excellent. This year, Panagiotis Stavrou (the son-in-law of Mrs Stella) will be a new and very active addition to the kitchen, offering an interesting flair in the preparation of dishes like ossobuco, shank and lemon mousse.
The hot soups, lamb fricassee, wine flavored rooster, offal roll, vegetable pie with sheets of filo pastry and the juicy homemade dailies and fresh meat all have a special place on the menu.
The tavern owners grow their own vines, so make sure you order their wine. For dessert there is homemade halva, ravani, orange pie, walnut pie with yogurt or homemade sweet fruit in syrup.
