2 days in Athens for couples

Athens is a city full of romantic surprises, with the historic centre looking like it is inspired by the ideals of romanticism, which is visible in every corner. If you are visiting Athens for two days, you have enough time to see major attractions, enjoy unforgettable walks with your significant other and discover many romantic corners.

Day 1

Start your day at the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, the city's landmarks that should not be missed. Bear in mind that you will need about 2-3 hours there. Afterwards, you can enjoy coffee and delicious desserts at Makrygianni 3 cafe on the eponymous street. Continue the romantic mood on Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian Street, exploring the treasures of the city, such as the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

Later on, take a stroll through the picturesque pedestrian street of Apostolou Pavlou in Thissio. There, you can make a delicious stop at Chocolat Royal admiring the wonderful views of the Acropolis. Visit the Monastiraki flea market and wander in the alleys of Plaka and the romantic Anafiotika. Al Hammam Baths is an ideal stop for relaxing with your significant other.

Continue your walk by going down Ermou Street, the most commercial street in the city; the shopping options are endless here! Nearby, you will come across a favourite square in the city, Agias Eirinis Square, which offers many excellent choices for drinks and dinner (School Pizza Bar is one of them). Within walking distance, you will also find Karitsi Square with very interesting bars. (The Clumsies, Odori Vermouteria Di Atene). In the evening, the beautiful terraces with panoramic views of the city are waiting for you to enjoy your dinner or cocktails under the stars. We highly recommend Galaxy Bar & Restaurant or Mono Restaurant, a more atmospheric wine bar.

Day 2

Start your day in one of the most famous parts of the city, in Syntagma Square. Say "good morning" to the evzones guarding the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament building. The changing of the guard is a sight you’ll see only in Athens, so don't miss it. Continue with a delightful walk in the National Gardens, a verdant paradise in the heart of Athens.

Philopappou Hill, one of the places in the city offering spectacular views, is also a good choice for a romantic walk. Afterwards, you can visit the nearby Kolonaki, the most cosmopolitan area downtown. Here, you can spend countless hours just window shopping or even shopping, and savouring coffee and cocktails in amazing places. Enjoy a coffee or a hot chocolate at the romantic Portatif, take some of the delicious handmade pies from Pie Works to go, and try the healthy suggestions of Nice 'n' Easy.

Next, visit any of the nearby museums, such as the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Benaki Museum.

In the evening, dine at Orizontes Lycabettus restaurant on Lycabettus hill and say goodbye to Athens from the most romantic spot of the city while enjoying the breath-taking view.
