From your meeting point in front of the Acropolis Metro Station, you will walk along the beautiful pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou towards the Acropolis, a magnificent landmark of both the Greek and the world civilization. Once there you will admire the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion with the fascinating Caryatid statues and the Parthenon, an architectural miracle dedicated to the patron of the city, the Goddess Athena.
Directly across is the Acropolis Museum which has recently been featured among the best in the world. Its exhibits will give you an idea of the ancient Greeks every day life, as well as showcase the importance of the Acropolis as a world heritage site. After wandering around the museum, it is time to relax and enjoy lunch at a well established Greek restaurant.
The tour continues with a walk along Athens’ oldest neighborhood, Plaka and Anafiotika, a portion of a Greek island tucked away at the foot of the Acropolis. After capturing the landscape with your camera, you will make a short break to enjoy a cup of coffee.
As you enter the historical center, you will discover fabulous landmarks of antiquity, such as the Roman Forum, Hadrian’s Library and Lysicrates’ monument. In the modern part of the city you will visit the central Syntagma square to attend the change of the Presidential Guard in front of the Unknown Soldier’s Monument.
After crossing the National Gardens and making a stop at the Zappeion conference center, you will find yourself in front of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. The tour ends at a nearby wine bar, where you can have a drink as you round up a memorable day in Athens.
