Golden Mycenae & Epidaurus
This one day trip will take you from Athens to the mythical land of Argolis, where you will visit two of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites and Monuments, Mycenae and Epidaurus.
Your bus will be following the coastal national highway and make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, before arriving at Mycenae. The kingdom of Agamemnon, the leader of the Achaean army that invaded Troy, was one of the most important and wealthy cities of antiquity. Your guide will escort you to the archaeological site and show you the immense Cyclopean Walls, which surrounded the city, the Lionesses’ Gate, the Royal Tombs and the astounding Treasury of Atreus that dates back to the 14th century BC.
Before heading to the restaurant for lunch, you can visit a pottery factory. After finishing your meal, you will get back up on the bus that will take you to Nafplio. There will be a brief stop to admire the first capital of Greece and its main sights, the Palamidi fortress and the fortified islet Bourtzi.
Your next stop will be at Epidaurus. Once there you will be guided to its well preserved ancient theater and the sanctuary of Asklepios, who was Apollo’s son and God of healing. After completing your tour, you will get back on the bus that will take you to Athens late in the afternoon.
