Lake Vouliagmeni, in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, is the hidden treasure of Attica’s nature. Situated only a few kilometres from the city centre. nthis rare geological phenomenon is included in Greece's national NATURA 2000 network.
Its current spectacular shape has probably been created during Hellenistic years. It is assumed that a huge volume of hot water was running inside the cave causing the erosion of the walls and forcing the roof to collapse and submerge, giving the lake its present name –Vouliagmeni from the Greek word “vouliazo” that means to submerge.
Lake Vouliagmeni is included in the official list of Greece’s Natural Thermal Spas. Its brackish waters, rich in salts and minerals, have a temperature between 22 to 29 degrees all year round.
The lake’s waters which are continuously replenished both by the sea and the underground thermal springs, 50 to 100 meters deep, offer a natural and unique thermal spa experience. Swimming in the lake is more than pleasurable, it’s a holistic experience, stimulating the swimmers’ energy and balancing their wellness. The healing properties of the natural springs are the cause of the unique synthesis and the high-water temperatures.
The Garra Rufa fish –known as spa fish– are part of the lake’s unique ecosystem, which provide a relieving massage in warm water that rids the skin of its scales and offer a natural rejuvenation.
The lake's restaurant invites all visitors for a delectable culinary experience from early in the morning until late at night, while the Prive Area promises to offer a delightful and relaxing experience in its idyllic setting.
The area around the lake is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas for relaxation and wellness. The lake also provides lifeguarding & medical services, parking, playground, Wi-Fi, lockers, changing rooms, showers, access for people with disabilities, WC.
