Magemenos Avlos is one of the most legendary taverns in Athens worth visiting at least once in your life. Operating since 1961 behind Proskopon Square in Pagrati, it is quite popular among the locals, and not only, for a nice dinner with international and Mediterranean cuisine dishes.
With retro and atmospheric environment, elegant and refined character, it is decorated with classic furnishing. It features some authentic antiques, which will definitely travel you back in time, when Hadjidakis, Elytis, Horn, Minotis, Seferis and others gathered at its tables, leaving their mark in this legendary restaurant.
From the menu, choose any of its historic dishes, with the most famous of these including the Parmesan croquettes (accompanied with Sauerkraut cabbage), the Hoffman schnitzel (with cheese and ham, and mashed potatoes), the cheese fondue served in a pan, the piccata and the Kozak fillet (with tomato, ham, cheese).
Its casseroles, inspired by Greek cuisine, are also excellent –about six different options on a daily basis–, while its homemade desserts –pecan pie, chocolate pie, ravani, cheesecake, etc. are a must-try.
However, what makes Magemenos Avlos such a unique restaurant is the fact that on a daily basis live unplugged music nights are organized with different music bands.
The restaurant’s owner, Mr. Dimitris Theophilou, is every night there to welcome you. It is worth getting to know him and spending some time talking, if you want to find some interesting stories from the past that keep your interest undiminished.
