Housed in a beautiful neoclassical, listed building of 1850, the School Life and Education Museum of the National Research and Rescue of School Material Centre (EKEDISY) is located in the heart of the historic centre of Athens, Plaka.
The purpose of its creation was to highlight the evolution of the educational system in Greece, through the recue, research and study of the history of education and schools.
The Museum's collections consist of elementary and high school textbooks and schoolbooks, schoolbooks from different parts of the world, children's books, school material (stationery, notebooks, pencil cases, etc.).
On both floors (ground floor and first floor) you will see a part of archives, while other parts are housed in periodic exhibitions both in the Museum and in the other museums in Greece. The first floor houses publications from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, while the second floor houses publications from the 20th century as well as school maps and school material of that period (17th-20th centuries). One of its most impressive parts is the representation of the classroom in the 1950s with the old wooden desks.
During the visit the students will have the opportunity to take part in various educational programs for schools of all levels held in the museum, while every weekend programs for children or for children with their parents take place.
Note that the museum can organize tours to pupils, students and adults in Greek and English upon request.
