Description

Museum of the City of Athens

Housed in two of the oldest buildings in Athens, the Museum of the City of Athens-Vouros-Eftaxias Foundation is located in Klafthmonos Square in the most central spot in the city. It hosts 40.000 objects from the Greek antiquity up to the 21st century, including paintings, furniture, prints and every day items, as well as mementos and documents from modern history.

Between 1836 and 1843, King Otto lived in the building on 7, I. Paparrigopoulou Street with his wife, Amalia and for this reason one of the museum's floors is dedicated to the memory of the royal couple. In the halls of the building at 5, I. Paparrigopoulou Street you can see period furniture and an Art Gallery. The two buildings are connected by an internal walkway.
