One of the arrivals of 2015 that not only starred in the public choices in the centre of Athens, but managed to establish the coffee-sweet combination as a favourite habit. Portatif cafe- patisserie in Kolonaki (on Sina Street) brings to mind a romantic Parisian bistro and takes us to one of the picturesque corners of the French capital somewhere in Marais.
Standing out for the fresh, homemade sweets prepared daily in its workshop by Tasos Lytras (owner and confectioner) and his team, Portatif has been established as the top meeting place in Kolonaki for sweet treats without guilt!
Emphasis is given to quality, with its menu being full of delicious proposals that will make your choice difficult. Here you will try cheesecake with forest fruits or cheesecake caramel (one the new arrivals in the menu), tarts in six different flavours (banoffee, bueno, lemon, chocolate, pastry cream with strawberries or seasonal fruit, peanut) depending always on seasonal raw ingredients, millefeuille, profiterole and bueno profiterole, chocolate pie, eclairs with various fillings. Some of its savoury proposals include Quiche Lorraine, individual pizza prepared in the workshop and handmade, homemade cheese pie.
Special emphasis, however, has been given to coffee as well, as you get to choose between two coffee varieties, with the single variety coffee from Brazil (renewed every six months) being used for hot coffees and Lanello for cold coffees. Its pluses include the fact that behind the bar there are specialized barristi, who express their artistic concerns through impressive latte art. For tea lovers, the carefully selected flavours form the Tea Route with fantastic aromas suit all tastes.
You should definitely try the hot chocolate beverages, made with melted pure chocolate, not powder, in three flavours: milk chocolate, dark chocolate and gianduja chocolate, while for more intricate flavours choose Portatif chocolate with dark chocolate, cinnamon and orange or the one with milk chocolate and star anise.
