With a name inspired by the owner's favourite Cretan meze (he is from Crete), Saligaros is an authentic Cretan taverna with emphasis on raki and mezze in Exarcheia that will definitely become one of your favourite places.
You will mostly find Cretan cuisine dishes, as well as some modern Greek ones, all made with quality products. Some of the ingredients come straight from Chania, such as myzithra cheese, olive oil and tsikoudia made by the owner's family.
The menu will leave you spoilt for choice. Snails cooked in a frying pan (boubourostoi), PDO Greek cheeses and cold cuts, ancient Greek-style salad with groats, feta cheese and pomegranate seeds, traditional Cretan makaroni (skioufihto) with apaki (smoked pork), tomatoes, myzithra cheese and mint, piperonati with yoghurt (dish with various peppers for those who enjoy spicy flavours), handmade Sfakian pies, smoked pancetta, chicken with rosemary and lemon juice, as well as mutton burger are some of the dishes you should definitely try.
You will also find Cretan tsikoudia, marouva (traditional Cretan red wine), ouzo and beers to have with your meal. The music played is suited to the whole Saligaros concept.
