The most recent arrival in Syntagma Square, which aspires to become the next all-day meeting point in the area, is The Great Syntagma, a cafe-bar restaurant in the centre of Athens –on Othonos Street, steps away from Syntagma Metro Station– and addresses all those who wish to spend quality time in a beautiful environment in the heart of the city.
With a classy atmosphere and aesthetics that bring images of a luxury hotel lounge to mind, it is open from morning serving aromatic coffee or tea, a hearty continental breakfast, croissants etc.
Its modern Greek cuisine with European influences bears the signature of the chef Iraklis Dimakopoulos, who has prepared a card with mainly Greek flavours, based on slightly different and modernized Greek recipes and selected raw ingredients from Greek producers.
Those that stand out include the smoked salmon in filo pastry with champagne sauce and the seafood salad with a variety of green vegetables, steamed seafood (shrimp, mussels, clams) in Chardonnay wine, with citrus sauce, and prelude an extremely interesting progression.
The main dishes include the New York steak rib eye black angus with various herbs, the stuffed chicken with cheddar cheese, julienne vegetables and bacon with brown onion sauce and mushrooms accompanied with oriental rice, and the sea bream fillet with seafood stuffing (prawns, mussels, fish and many herbs that travel you mentally to... Indonesia) cooked on the grill exactly as it should be. Pasta lovers should not miss out on the papardelle with smoked salmon and cuttlefish ink, while those who are vegetarians should go for the excellent vegetable risotto with mushrooms and truffle oil.
For a light lunch break, choose the soup of the day or the tomato soup and the onion soup, while those who wish to eat more... traditionally there is a daily special, based on Greek traditional cuisine.
In the evening, the space becomes even more atmospheric with dim lights, ideal to welcome the live piano (Tuesday- Saturday) and the velvety voice that takes us on a mental journey through five different languages. It is the time when we enjoy at the same time some thought-out proposals of the cocktail list, such as the Spicy Gingerman, Masticha Lime, Spicy Mango.
