On the central square of Athens, Syntagma Square, the building of the Hellenic Parliament with the characteristic evzones and the Monument of the Unknown Soldier is one of the most photographed places of the city.
Initially here it was the palace of kings Otto and George. Just in front of the parliament you will see the Monument of the Unknown Soldier with the relief depicting a dead naked soldier on the ground, holding his shield in his hand and a helmet on his head. You will see flowers at this point left by visitors in honour of those who died in service of their country.
Here you will see the famous evzones or soldiers of the Presidential Guard who guard the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. They wear the traditional uniform with a skirt and shoes (tsarouhia), and are a big attraction. Do not miss the opportunity to attend the change of the guard that takes place daily every one hour. This procedure is a unique experience that you will not see in anywhere in the world.
