The Aroma Restaurant & Bar is housed in a 15th-century building –the interior has been preserved as it was with its stone and vaulted ceiling– which served as the Arsenal of the old harbour of Chania and in operation for about 20 years, is an all time classic choice for coffees overlooking the impressive lighthouse and the mosque of Kioutsouk Hassan which is located right next to it.
Its owners are dedicated to keep family principles at the heart of how the guests are looked after. Fine, though slightly posh interiors with vaulted ceilings, wooden floor, modern details (e.g. check out the light fittings), a true lively ambience, bright airy and an open-kitchen offering tasteful dishes (e.g. the menu is a tempting read), delicious sweets, blended coffee, and a friendly yet professional staff. The vibe is laid-back and the service is invariably warm and sunny just like the weather in Crete.
The day at Aroma begins with a rich, full breakfast (bread, butter, jam, fried eggs etc.), the Aroma breakfast (tomato, cheese, olives, Cretan rusks) or omelettes and fresh juices and a natural, unobstructed view of the Old Harbour in Chania.
With an emphasis on food, Aroma has a menu of tasty suggestions from Mediterranean cuisine, which are an ideal choice for lunch or dinner at affordable prices. Pasta, risotto, main courses of meat dishes (chicken fillet, tenderloin, etc.), burgers and pizzas will make it difficult for you to choose.
At night, the focus turns to cocktails with a cocktail list offering numerous refreshing suggestions. A favourite of the public is the Cranberry Kiss, Apple Martini, Mango or Peach Daquiri.
Aroma often hosts art exhibitions (i.e. painting, photography and more) and special events such degustation evenings, birthday and anniversary parties. In addition, it presents on regular basis, amazing nights devoted either to Asian, Mexican, Spanish or local cuisine.
Aroma Restaurant & Bar is definitely a must for every visitor and a popular meeting place for the locals.
