Fagotto, on Angelou Street, one of the prettiest streets in the Old Town of Chania, is a bar with personality. This jazz bar with attitude has a small interior as well as tables on the quaint little back street.
A constant fixture in the choice of locals for over 38 years, both for its special atmosphere throughout the interior and exterior of the venue as well as the quality and attentiveness of service. The building has been designated as a Grade II listed building since 1948. During the 15th century this is where the Venetian headquarters were housed. The barracks were located where the bar operates today.
It opened in 1978 and is housed in a building which operated as the Venetian residency in the 15th century. It organizes live music nights and has an up-to-date cellar with unique malt and special whisky. You can listen to jazz, swing and blues from a turntable here.
Note that the Fagotto was (and still is) a favourite haunt of intellectuals and artists visiting Chania. If you ask the owners, they will surely have many stories to recount.
