The most densely populated peninsula of Halkidiki is situated at its westernmost tip, with several towns and villages within a short distance from Thessaloniki.
Golden beaches, a lacy coastline, picturesque coves and inlets, crystal clear water, a breathtaking natural scenery and traditional settlements featuring typical Macedonian houses are the main characteristics of this popular tourist destination. Amongst its most important towns and villages are Afytos, Kryopigi, Nea Fokaia, Nea Moudania, Paliouri, Pefkohori, Possidi, Chanioti, and Kallithea, which is renowned for its vibrant nightlife.
It should be noted that according to Greek mythology, the peninsula of Kassandra was home to the Giants (or Gigantes) and the first battleground of the Gigantomachy, the battle fought between the Giants and the Olympian gods for the supremacy of the cosmos.
