A unique experience is waiting for you in one of the largest aquariums not only in Greece but also in Europe. Cretaquarium- seaworld, part of the Hellenic Centre of Marine Research, which opened at Gournes in 2005, 14km from Heraklion city, will give you the chance to explore the Mediterranean sea world, at the state-of-the-art facilities.
There are 60 different water tanks -with a capacity of 125-900,000 litres- with sea water where you can see about 2,500 Mediterranean and tropical species.
What makes your visit even more interesting, are the modern audio visual systems such as info points with touch screens, interactive applications, video projections, etc., which contribute to providing visitors with a full understanding of how the Mediterranean sea ecosystem is structured and functions.
There are also small hand audio guides, available in 9 languages (Greek, English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Czech), which cost €3/person.
