Kokkini Ammos is one of the most secluded beaches in the whole prefecture. It is located southwest, 70km from Heraklion city centre, close to famous Matala (20-minute walk).
It is named after the characteristic colour of the sand (kokkini meaning red), while another impressive feature are the rocks, seen at the northern part of the beach. There is a canteen which is not always open, so make sure you a have everything you might need with you.
Kokkini Ammos is among the most popular nudist beaches, and it has been included in the best nudist beaches worldwide. The wider area is protected and part of the Natura 2000 network, as it is home to the Mediterranean seal and the caretta-caretta turtle.
