One of the most secluded and hard to access beaches in the prefecture, Martsalo beach is located in the south part of it, 75km from the Heraklion city centre.
This sandy beach with fine pebbles and crystal clear waters is surrounded by rocks, creating a beautiful scenery of natural beauty, with tamarisks and impressive palm trees. There are no facilities, so make sure you have everything you might need with you.
We suggest you get to the beach by going through Martsaliotiko gorge. It is about 2km long, and quite an easy hike. As you walk along the gorge you will see clusters of palm and locust trees, oleanders and perennial olive trees.
At the beginning of the gorge you will come across Panagia Martsaliani church, built in a rock.
