The Natural History Museum of Crete is located on Sofoklis Venizelou coastal avenue, west of Heraklion port, and it is housed in a listed industrial building. It opened in 1980 under the umbrella of the School of Sciences of the University of Crete.

The exhibition occupies two floors and it comprises several sections. The visitor can actively participate and get to know the exhibits through three-dimensional, exciting and interactive exhibits.
