Art on Hydra

With its undeniable endless charm, Hydra knows how to attract its visitors. In fact, the same can be said for the Artists who found themselves on the island and enchanted by its beauty and hospitality, inspired them.

Having hosted two blockbuster films, "The Boy on the Dolphin" starring Sophia Loren and Jules Dassin's "Phaedra" with the unforgettable Melina Mercouri, it developed an artistic style as early as the 1950s.

Today, the intense artistic movement on the island is one of its primary characteristics with exhibitions taking place in various venues, mainly during the summer months. Among the most distinctive institutions is the DESTE foundation, a not for profit organization based in Athens which hosts contemporary art exhibitions. It facilitates a different artist every summer.
