Easter on Hydra

Hundreds of visitors to the majestic island make Hydra their meeting place every year during the Easter period to follow, up close, the Good Friday customary procession of the Epitaph of Agios Ioannis in Kamini village (15 minutes on foot from the port) to the sea. The custom is carried out to bless the waters and bring luck to the sailors and the sponges.

On Easter Saturday night, at the time of the Resurrection, the port of Hydra is lit up by the colors of the spectacular fireworks, while flares are thrown from anchored, lit up ships and sirens sounded. On Easter Sunday, the traditional burning of Judas on the waterfront takes place.
