Description

Foka-Cosmetatos Foundation

Near the central square of Argostoli, the Foka-Cosmetatos Foundation is housed in the historic family home of Foka-Cosmetatos, which was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1953 to accommodate, among other things, a museum with personal collections of rare works.

On the ground floor of the building you will find furniture from the beginning of the 20th century, lithographs of Joseph Cartwright (Opinions in the Ionian Islands), Edward Lear and Henry Cook, lithographs with traditional costumes of the Ionian Islands, portraits, as well as coins and banknotes that have circulated in the Ionian islands throughout its long history.

The Foundation also has a vault, which is available to all researchers and includes an extremely important collection of photos of pre-earthquake Kefalonia, studies by the brothers Kosmetatou and some books.

Finally, a children's library and educational center operates with a creative play workshop.
