At a distance of 10 km. from Argostoli, in the Livathos area, you will come across a jewel of a village, of which you never get your fill of walking around and admiring its beauty. Kourkoumelata was destroyed by the earthquakes of 1953 and rebuilt to Swiss design after the ship owner George Vergoti made a donation.

The result is a model village with exemplary aesthetics layout, spacious public spaces, clean streets, elegant buildings, wonderfully colorful gardens and a groomed central square with huge palm trees. Kourkoumelata has a park, hotel, sports facilities, stadium and a magnificent church dedicated to the Dormition of Theotokos. The jewel of the village is the Spiritual-Cultural Centre, housed in a neoclassical style building, which frequently hosts interesting cultural events.
