At a distance of 22 km. from Argostoli, on the east coast of Kefalonia, awaits a green tourist town and the largest port of the island, which is connected to Patras, Ithacs and Astako Aitoloakarnanias. The coastal road is full of tavernas, restaurants and cafe-bars, where the cast of the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin once frequented, and today its patrons are guests from all over the world.
After a short, green path, the famous beach of Atisamos emerges which offers crystal clear waters and a white sand beach with smooth pebbles. In the vicinity are the famous caves of Drogarati and Melissani, which are among the must see sights of the island. From high, the ruins of the ancient city, mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey, dominate the view, as does the chapel of Saint Fanenton.
Starting from Sami you can begin your ascent towards the Ainos National Park, with the tallest mountain of the Ionian Sea, wild horses and a dense forest of black Kefalonian fir.
