The Lantern of St. Theodore

The Lantern of St. Theodore (or Lighthouse Argostoli) is located in the area of Lassi, near Katavothres, about 3 km outside of Argostoli. One of the most photographed attractions of the island, it stands out for its unique architecture and is one of the best spots to enjoy the sunset.

This is a unique circular building with a small tower on top, surrounded by 20 Doric columns. The elegant lighthouse, built in the early 19th century when the island was under the administration of the Englishman Charles Napier, was destroyed by earthquakes in 1953 and built again in 1964 based on the original plans, thus faithfully preserving its unique architectural style.
