Formed by volcanic eruptions, Nisyros, located 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kos, is characterised by its wild beauty. According to mythology, the creation is due to a rock that grabbed the angry god Apollo during the era of Gigantomachy and threw him to kill the giant Polyvotis.
The island's capital is Mandraki, dotted with all-white houses and gorgeous little picturesque streets with colourful details that lie beneath the rock monastery of Panagia of Spiliani, the protector of the island. Points to visit are Ilikiomenon Square and Porta Square, (which is entirely paved with pebbles), the mountain village of Emporeio, which overlooks the valley of the volcano and the beautiful village of Nikia.
Benchmarks of the island are the volcano and the Stefanos Crater, formed 3,000 years ago and has a depth of 27m. This lunar landscape's unique atmosphere and distinctive aroma will forever remain etched in your memory.
