Located 3.5 miles southwest of the centre of Kos town and 500 meters from the archaeological site of Asklipieios, you'll find the International Hippocratic Foundation, which is dedicated to the father of medicine, Hippocrates.
The foundation was established in 1960, while its inauguration took place in 1979. With an international style, it was created through the initiative of Surgeon-Urologist, Professor Spyridonas Economou of the University of Athens.
The building is located in a lush green area of 380,000 sq.m. with cypress trees, pines, wildflowers and an abundance of shrubs overlooking the sea, the city of Kos and the coast of Asia Minor. Facilities include the Museum of Hippocratic Medicine with copies of reliefs of ancient performances with medical content, busts of Hippocrates and Asklepieious, a large number of silver and bronze medals, original versions of the Hippocratic School, stamps and paintings depicting Hippocrates.
One of the benchmarks is the Hippocratic Botanical Garden with precious plants and herbs, which accounted for Hippocrates' remedy for any ailment. Take a walk on the paths and discover everything about every kind of herb from the signs on display.
