Kardamena, one of the most significant tourist resorts in Kos, located approximately 30 km south of the centre of the capital city. Built on the site of the ancient city of Alasarna (an important centre of worship in classical antiquity) spread over a large area, with the deep blue sea on one side and green fields with crops and trees on the other.
The youngest settlement on the island, if you consider the transfer of residents in 1865, has developed touristically, offering visitors valuable suggestions for accommodation, food (the village has tavernas serving fresh fish and local delicacies) and entertainment(beach activities and beach bars, cultural events and more).
Some of the most remarkable points of Kardamena are the restored building which today houses the rural medical clinic, the churches of Agias Varvaras, Agion Anargiron and Panagia and of course, the 6 km long beach, which is appropriate for swimming and games under the summer sun.
Ferries to Nisyros depart from the port of Kardamena daily and excursions to the hot springs of Agias Eirinis.
