Description

Western Archaeological Zone

The Western Archaeological Zone, opposite the ancient theatre and Roman Odeon, is part of the ancient city of Kos and was completely abandoned by the inhabitants of the island during the Middle Ages and the period of the Knights. However, excavations carried out here have brought a number of important structures and monuments of major significance to light.

Among those found are Thermes of the Port, the northern and western baths, the Stadio (built in the first half of the 2nd century), Ksiston or Ksistos, Dromos of Gymnasiou, the paved road (cardo), the Gallery of limestone, the Nymphaio or Forica of Thermes, the street with galleries and the residential blocks with mosaic houses.
