Description

Agios Spyridonas

One of the most important and interesting churches on the island is found at the central square of Lefkada. This is the church of Agios Spyridonas, built in the 17th century.

Single-aisled basilica, elongated and low, it has no dome and features side entrances with influences from the Venetian architecture. Its iconostasis is painted by the Zakynthian woodcarver I. Groppas, while its icons are painted by the Cretan Tommaso Zen of Venetian origin.
