Post-Byzantine Icons Collection
Post-Byzantine Icons Collection

The Post-Byzantine Icons Collection is housed in the Public Library of Lefkada, in a neoclassical, historical listed building of the late 19th century down town.

The icons come from private collections as well as from monasteries and churches on the island, most buildings of which have been destroyed. Approximately 150 post-byzantine icons, most which are painted by hagiographers of the Ionian School, such as Doxaras, Gazis, Patsaras, Ventouras, etc., monastic habits and ecclesiastical books, and other Christian art objects from the 16th century onwards are displayed on the first floor of the library on a permanent basis.
