Discover the rich hinterland of the island like explorers through a different tour this time. Take your car and "scour" the eastern part of the county with picturesque villages and beautiful natural scenery.
Starting from the town of Lefkada, towards Nydri, at the intersection of Agios Minas, choose the road that will lead you to the east side of the island. During the route, you will find the church of Panagia Megalovrisotissa (Zoodochos Pigi) and then Kalligoni, located at the site of Nirikos, the ancient town of Lefkada, which remained the capital of the island until the 13th century AD.
Next stop on your route is the village Karyotes, 4 km from Lefkada town, famous for the Alikes (salt pans) Alexandros. There, you will see what is left of the old salt pans of the island, which were created by the Franks in the 15th century and stopped operating in 1947.
You go down a bit more leaving Lygia behind you, the port of Katouna village, driving on the winding road overlooking the Ionian Sea, and then you reach Nikiana, a village created by the residents of the mountain village Alexandros. You take the road to the villages Alexandros, Platistoma and the monastery of the Holy Fathers. The latter, in fact, chiselled in a rock, is one of the oldest religious monuments of the island.Next stop is Kolyvata, a village "cradled" in the lush green nature. Do not forget to visit the monastery of Evaggelistria, also known as Red Church, between the villages Platistoma and Perigiali.
