Archaeological Museum of Messinia

In the heart of Kalamata's historical center, directly opposite the historical church of Agion Apostolon, at the location which once housed the town's Public Market you will find the Archaeological Museum of Messinia.

Divided into geographical units according to the region's four provinces –Kalamata, Messini, Pylos and Trifylia– the collection comprises of representative antiquities, either from excavations or surface surveys, or occasionally from citizens from the Copper Age to the Roman Period.

The museums' exhibition follows a main "road map", which is in a way reminiscent of the Pamissos River as it runs through a large part of Messinia. Each section is a self-contained unit, and so the visitor does not need to follow the complete itinerary of the main road.
