Carrying the Protected Designation of Origin label, the Messinian extra virgin olive oil –"liquid gold" as Homer called it– is one of the traditional, local products that is produced in the region from ancient times until the present day.

Along with the olives, it is a valuable link in the chain of the Mediterranean diet as it has a particularly high nutritional and biological value with extremely beneficial properties for the body. It stands apart because of its bright green color, fruity flavor (the slightly bitter taste indicates its high content in anti-oxidant properties) and unique aroma.
