Petalidi is located at a distance of 26 km from the center of Kalamata. A picturesque fishing village (typical example of a Mediterranean seaside village) in the previous century, it has now become one of the region's most famous resorts. With a plethora of options for accommodation, food (particularly fresh fish) and entertainment, it ideally combines the sea with the surrounding olive groves and fig trees making it an ideal summer holidays even with family.
From a historical standpoint, it is believed-according to Homer-that Homeric Epia (one of the cities Agamemnon offered to Achilles in return for his support in battle) was built where Petalidi stands today. It is also believed that ancient Koroni was built here with its peak continuing into the Roman times given that archaeologists have excavated a temple and baths of the period.
