Sfela cheese, which has been PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) certified, has a fat content of 40%, it has a salty taste and is stored in brine. The name is derived from the way it is cut (sfela = strip), while it was presented with the gold award in the 3rd National Greek Cheeses Competition held in 2011.
