Located at the southern mountain range of Mt. Taygetos, Vasiliki Forest is an above ground paradise for nature lovers. Situated at an 8 km distance from the mountain's highest peak, the forest spreads over 1100 hectares of forest land and primarily comprises of fir and pine trees.
This is relatively secluded forest that is surrounded my mountain tops. From Agios Dimitrios we can get the international path E4, which upon its descent passes from the bed of the Vyros Gorge heading towards Kardamyli. The route passes from the ancient Royal Road used by the kings of Lakedaimonos, the positions Dilagado and Troskona, and after a harsh 5-6 hour walk we can ascend to Exohori, a village situated at 420 meters above sea level.
During Italian occupation a large part of the forest was burnt in a massive fire. Today we can see 300-year-old trees.
