As you walk by the sea from Gialos towards Little Venice you will discover the Kastro neighbourhood, which is the oldest in the Chora of Mykonos. Many years ago it was the most densely built neighbourhood and its walls run all around the island’s main settlement.
The dominating landmark here is Panagia Paraportiani, a real jewel not only for Mykonos but for the whole Aegean Sea. Built on the ruins of the medieval castle of Mykonos, it is really a complex comprised of five churches, laid on two different levels. Four of them are located on the lower level, while the main one, which was built between the 16th and the 17th century, is elevated and stuns all the visitors with its asymmetrical design.
The view from here to the endless blue of the sea is marvelous and the ambience is very romantic.
