Welcome to Nafplio

Nafplio is the capital of the Argolida prefecture and is one of the most beautiful towns in the Peloponese and in all of Greece. It is a favorite destination for both Greek and foreign tourists throughout the year. The Venetian conquerors called it the ''Naples of the East''. Most people know that it was the first capital of the Greek state in 1828, under the governor, Ioannis Kapodistrias.

Today Nafplio is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country and boasts a rich history, major attractions and worthwhile recommendations for accommodation, food and entertainment.

Nafplio's beautiful Old Town, with its characteristic Venetian architecture, two castles and famous Palamidi and Acronafplia, is a benchmark. Its much photographed Bourtzi is the landmark of this Argolida capital, which is located in the sea and is visible from all areas of the town. We recommend you visit the central Syntagma Square with the Archaeological Museum and Parliament Building on the busy Vasileos Konstantinou Street, also known as ''Megalo Dromo'', the church of Agios Spyridonas,, the Gate of Xiras, the first pharmacy in Greece in Trion Navarhon Square and Filellinon Square.

Those of you who choose to come here for your summer getaway or vacation, should know that Arvanitia, Karathona, Tolo and the Ancient Assini coast are among the famous beaches. You can try local delicacies at the taverns and restaurants during your stay in Nafplio, whose key ingredients are meat and fish, as well as quality dailies. With regard to nightlife, this Argoliki town goes above and beyond.
