On the slopes of a deep, green valley, located 30 km from Chora is Koronos, one of the oldest and largest in the northwestern mountainous villages of Naxos. This is one of the most famous villages laden with emery on the island and flourished thanks to the mining of emery. Nowadays it's one of Naxos's most popular destinations, offering several accommodation and food options.
After leaving your car high up at the villages entrance, you'll have the opportunity to wander the seven surrounding neighbourhoods of the settlement (Anegyrida, Kastro, Leivadaki, Kato Geitonia, Apano Sterna, Provolakia and Platsa), which compose a picturesque setting with labyrinthine-like streets with an abundance of stairways and terraces, traditional houses with whitewashed courtyards and small squares with old springs. In the heart of the village is the "Platsa", the central square with cafes and taverns that offer good food, shade and and cool refreshing breeze, underneath the vines.
