Lush gardens, streams, old watermills, ruins of towers and scattered chapels, a landscape of unique beauty, just 8 km from the port of Naxos, Potamia lies in a green valley and consists of four settlements (Ano Potamia, Mesi Potamia, Potamia and Lierado) which retain their traditional character and boasts enjoyable walks in idyllic surroundings.

Ano Potamia's square will capture your attention with its old fountain next to the chapel of Agios Ioannis Theologos and the traditional stone watermill, which has been restored and is open to visitors. Kokkos Tower in Lierado is the most impressive attraction. Built in the 17th century, it has a mill in its basement and inscriptions on in doorways. Of the approximately 35 churches that are scattered around, what stands out is Agios Mamas (a.k.a. Panagia Theoskepasti), a Byzantine church of the 10th century with interesting architecture.
