Ecclesiastical Museum of Patmos

The Ecclesiastical Museum of Patmos works within the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos and is considered one of the greatest of the Aegean, since it houses collections that are amongst the best in the world.

In the two exhibition halls some of the most important objects of Byzantine and post-Byzantine art, icons, ecclesiastical silver tableware and gold-embroidered vestments, ancient manuscripts, carvings, jewelry, etc are housed.

Among the famous exhibits the mosaic icon of St. Nicholas, dating back to the 11th century, the golden sealed deeds of Alexiou A of Komnenos, with which the Byzantine Emperor gave Patmos to Christodoulos in 1088, and the icon from the beginning of the 17th century depicting the burial of Hosios Christodoulos stand out.
