Description

Zodochou Pigis Monastery

The Monastery Zodochou Pigis, a 5-minute walk from the monastery of Saint John the Theologist, lies in the southwestern part of Chora of Patmos, a few minutes behind the square of Losa and the Town Hall square of the island.

The so-called Small Monastery was founded in 1607 by the Abbot of the monastery of Agios Ioannis, Parthenio Pangkosta, and is dedicated to Christ and the Virgin Mary. Externally it looks like an imposing fortress surrounded by a fortified enclosure.

It is a quiet and not so touristic convent. The nuns are committed in their charity work, while they also sew religious costumes and propagate the courtyards with bougainvilleas and blooming flowers. Like the monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos, so here you'll see precious icons dating from the 16th to the 18th century, with the miraculous fresco of Panagia Eleousa standing out.
