If you visit Pelion during the winter, it means that you are fond of mountains. Not only because you have a soft spot for winter sports, but also because you are after unique experiences the wonderful nature of Pelion can provide. Pelion ski resort is located in Agriolefkes, 2km from Chania, 12km from Portaria, 20km from Zagora and 27km from the centre of Volos, with the highest point reaching 1,471 metres.
It provides pistes for beginners as well as advanced skiers, and it was created by the Greek Mountaineering Club of Volos in 1967. Since 1997, the Development Company of Magnesia is in charge of its operation.
There are 5 pistes (all connected to each other) with a total length of 15km, 4 of which are the main ski pistes (certified by the International Ski Federation) and 1 piste for cross-country skiing (descending is through beeches and aspens with a magnificent view of the Aegean sea). There is also a restaurant and refectory for a pleasant break (ideal if you are not mad about winter sports and you just want to spend your time relaxing), a shelter (also available for spending the night), shops that rent and sell ski and snowboard equipment, as well as a surgery.
There is also a ski and snowboard school for those who are not familiar with winter sports and want to get a taste. It is for children over 3 years old and adults. Lessons (group or private) are given by experienced and specialised instructors.
