The City Museum is a landmark for Volos and the first contemporary city museum in Greece. It is housed in the building of the former Papantos tobacco warehouse in 15 Feron street.
It was established in December 2014 with the opening of a big exhibition called: “Volos-Nea Ionia: so close, so far”. This event was organized to honor the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the refugees’ settlement in Nea Ionia. In its three separate levels the modern history of the city is on display through the exhibition of 120 items and 900 minutes of audio and visual material.
On the ground floor you will find halls that host exhibitions and events, a gift shop and a reading room. Right underneath the exhibition hall you will see the preserved parts of the water pipelines dating back to the middle Byzantium era (6th-7th century AD).
