Archaeological Museum of Rethymno

Right by the Fortezza main gate, you will come across the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno that opened in 1991. It will give you the chance to get a good idea regarding the cultural history of the prefecture from the Neolithic period to the Roman times through various exhibits.

Findings from caves, settlements and Minoan cemeteries as well as objects from the geometric, archaic, classic, hellenistic and Roman periods can be seen in the halls, giving visitors the opportunity to admire the cultural history of the area.

All exhibits are categorised according to their age and excavation they were found.
