Zisi's taverna opened in 1972 at Misiria, only 4km from Rethymno city centre and it has preserved its traditional style, with authentic recipes from Crete and Minor Asia that belong to grandma Chrysoula.
There are 35-40 different dishes on the menu, with meat, fish and vegetables. They are all made with fresh Cretan ingredients while the meats are from local farms.
Try the stuffed vegetables, briam (roasted vegetables), artichokes with fava beans, lamb, traditional papoutsakia (aubergines stuffed with minced meat and cream), dolmadakia (stuffed lettuce leaves), etc. The soutzoukakia (oval shaped mince balls with cumin), pork casserole and the aubergines with cheese are best sellers.
