A village in the Mylopotamos area, at the north part of the foot of Psiloritis, Zoniana is located at an altitude of 64m, 52km (1-hour drive) from Rethymno city centre.
This is the third name given to the village (Zouliana and Zoutolako being the former two), and there are many legends and traditions regarding this particular village that go back in time. You should definitely visit cave Sfendoni at the village entrance, among the five best ones in Greece, with impressive stalagmites and stalactites. It stretches over 3,000m², and it is about 145m long. There are chambers you can visit, "Sanctuary of the Fairy", "Chamber of Harmonium", "Palace" and "Parthenon".
The Wax Museum is also worth visiting. It was created by Mr. Dionisis Potamianos, and it includes 87 waxworks showing scenes taken from Cretan history. In 1,000m² you will have the chance to see, in real size, the wax figures of Eleftherios Venizelos, Kornaros, Theotokopoulos, Kazantzakis, to mention only a few.
