Emponas, located 54 km south west of the city of Rhodes in an altitude of 430 m., is one of the most popular destinations for a tour in the island’s mainland. This village is vibrant all year long and is famed for the quality of the local meat and wine.
After wandering around its backstreets and visiting the Folklore Museum, we recommend you to get a table in one of the village’s taverns, in order to find out the reason why all the locals come here –especially over the weekend– to have a great meal. We suggest the traditional meat tavern “Mpakis brothers” (tel. 22460 41247).
Emponas is famous for producing the island’s finest wine. It is really worth your time to schedule a visit to Emery, the village’s largest winery, or one of the Kounakis, Alexandris and Merkouris wineries, if you want to sample the local wine varieties.
