Gastronomy

Local Rhodes cuisine has influences from the neighboring continents of Asia, Africa and Europe, while maintaining its own character which moves along the paths of Mediterranean cuisine.

Historically, the staple ingredients of Rhodes cuisine were wheat and olives and nearly all dishes produced are from ingredients from Rhodes soil, local farms and the sea. Today, local cuisine consists mainly of delicacies from the sea, which you can try at taverns and restaurants on the island.

Some of the dishes worth trying are soupiorizo (risotto in squid ink), pitaroudia (tomato rissoles), talakoutes (pancakes with honey) and the traditional melekouni sweet ((a type of pasteli - sesame seed with honey).
